The concept of interconnectedness applies to the Business Model Canvas. The relationship between key activities, or value creation (inputs), and the value delivery (outputs) is interconnected.
The way I see it, a leader, or manager, who applies systems thinking, can leverage the Business Model Canvas to improve value delivery.
Instead of focusing on outputs, the systems thinker focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of the key activities that create value.
The systems thinking manager understands that the outputs (value delivery), are a by-product of the inputs (value creation). Because outputs are a by-product of the inputs, they cannot be managed — only monitored. The outputs are used to gauge the effectiveness of key activities introduced into the value creation process. Only by iterating on the process of value creation can teams affect the value they are capable of delivering in a finite period.
